Need Your Help

juliaoftheskies:

Hey guys! Sorry if this seems a little weird, but is anyone available for an interview about how the youtube gamer communities and channels have affected your lives? I’m writing a college paper on the affect the community and the channel have on the people who are in it and the world around them. My teacher was very adamant about not using email, so thats out, but we can communicate through IM or skype and what-not.
Please reply or message me if you’re interested, and thank you!

Thresher sharks are up for listing on CITES Appendix II this September - but what does this mean?

Thresher sharks are incredible foxy-faced tail whipping sharks which usually hang out in deep water, but there is one very special island in the Philippines where they come to a shallow cleaning station to be cleaned - Malapascua Island.  This great video by Steve De Neef and the PEW Charitable Trusts illustrates why this incredible shark species needs better protection in the Philippines.

CITES - the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora - is an international agreement between governments. Its aim is to ensure that international trade in specimens of wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival. CITES CoP17 will be held in Johannesburg, South Africa this September and will decide the fate of three species of thresher shark as well as the silky shark, nine species of Mobula ray and the Ocellated river stingray (within the elasmobranchii - more species, terrestrial and marine will also be up for review).

Beautiful creatures.

I used Pc Builds and Jacksepticeye as an inspiration. In spite of a few mistakes here and there I am happy with how this one turned out. There is a lot of awesome art in Jack’s community and it’s aways a joy to visit that tag and see the greatness people put out - It inspires me to contribute as much as I can. You, people, are really amazing!!!

fyeah-history:

The Burney Relief
The Burney Relief (also known as the Queen of the Night relief) is a Mesopotamian terracotta plaque in high relief of the Isin-Larsa- or Old-Babylonian period, depicting a winged, nude, goddess-like figure with bird’s talons, flanked by owls, and perched upon supine lions. The relief is displayed in the British Museum in London, which has dated it between 1800 and 1750 BCE. It originates from southern Iraq, but the exact find-site is unknown. Apart from its distinctive iconography, the piece is noted for its high relief and relatively large size, which suggests that is was used as a cult relief, which makes it a very rare survival from the period. However, whether it represents Lilitu, Inanna/Ishtar, or Ereshkigal, is under debate. The authenticity of the object has been questioned from its first appearance in the 1930s, but opinion has generally moved in its favour over the subsequent decades.
